A new school at Newquay designed for the Duchy of Cornwall and to be occupied in September 2019. Our client asked us to design an imposing building that could form a gateway to the new mixed development at Nansledan. We responded by producing an uplifting building that can act as a symbol of quality, ambition and educational aspiration in this seaside location.

Nansledan School (Skol Nansledan in Cornish) is a brand new 14-classroom school that will cater for 420 children (two-form entry) and be operated by the Aspire Academy Trust. The Trust already supports 27 primary school academies across Cornwall. According to Aspire it “challenges the traditional primary school aesthetic” while the Sunday Times described it as “a grand pile on the edge of town calling to mind the mansion in ‘Rebecca’”.
